calicut….

Posted in Uncategorized by clash on February 26, 2005

This place pretty much is getting on to my nerve! i really dont know… the lions share of my life i had spent here, i enjoyed being here, i was proud of being born and brought up in calicut , but not any more.. i really dont know, what makes this disgusting feeling in me.. but i cant help it!!
y’day i had a meeting with one of my friend, not a great friend of mine… but i was introduced to this dude by another of my good friend. the guy i met y’day is a drummer. he had earlier told me that he has not studied drums! he doesnt have a personal drum set, all he do is when ever some one of his acquaintance calls him for a perfomance, rents a drum set and thrash it out! :)-( he performed for opening of a hall in NITC, i heard some of the students even ran away coz of fear…i really dont know.. he showed me some of fingers.. they dint have nails.. he told me.. he lost it during some perfomances!! )
y’day we had a pretty long talk. i have been seeing this fella for a long time. long hair.. a pretty weird beard and oddly dressed. he some times look like nelson mandela with long hair, mostly coz of the clothes he wear. one day i got introduced to this fella. now y’day he told me that he was a part of a band earlier and they were 5 of them. now only 2 are left over. unfortunately it seems rest 3 of the band members committed suicide! and he was proudly speaking that his kind of music is the one which creates fear psychosis! his inspirations are nirvana.. sepultura and things like that. :)- and more over he told me that , i play drums.. i understand music of all kinds , but i really really dont know , how to talk english!! ofcourse he is a drop out from the school. :)-

then he told me.. that one of the first rock bands in kerala originated in calicut , by an anglo indian called HUTTON, it was called “dread locks” it went on for a while.. then hutton was missing for the good.. the drummer on a fine evening was strolling on a railway line… there was train coming in his way.. he thought it was goin to the oppsosite side.. and he was taken for the good from this land!!( digging down under to understand why did he think the train was moving in the opposite direction is ridiculous! its so obvious!!) there are still some traces of these people in calicut.. this particular dude im talking to , benny a guitar teacher.. who belongs to lineage of hutton… like that…
A painter who dint have enough cash to buy paper for his sketches , but who had some money to spare for ciggy’s and who used to make sketches on these covers .. hundreds of them. one fine morning a french belle ends up in calicut for studying the folklores of north kerala ( we forget things like these..(folklores) and later westerners discover it for us!!) she meets this very painter, gets fascinated by his works and take him to paris! they marry over there.. and he is well settled there , coz out there they get grants for artists.. ( movie story??? ..nope its not…)
thats not the end. a self proclaimed dope head from calicut, who is also a tabla player, who is a friend of this painter fly off to paris on this painters expense, plays there for fashion shows.. and now he makes a living out there…. ah!! things go weird at times! but.. at times.. it goes so weird that it can create an indigestion!!
but these are not the reasons to be disgusted abt this place.. but some how… i really dont know.. i kinda starting to hate this place!

calicut to me, was like a movie frame till date. but now as i read u, i think it needs more than one frame. and yes…i believe, the whole of kerala is sort of weird.

my dance teacher, who at 34, wife and mother of one boy, used to walk down the streets of chennai, becoz of her love for bharathanatyam, long back!!!

…now with over 300 children learning from her, i think…it is basically an instinct to follow ur dreams that matters.

and did i see ashik’s name anywhere? kutty, just tel him that there was a person who used to mail him, is still alive here and has stopped mailing him!!! i guess he is busy studying anyways!!! 😦
